Water Dreaming by Shorty Jangala Robertson

Shorty Jangala Robertson was born in 1925. His paintings are fresh, vigorous and new because he wasn’t involved in the emerging Central Desert painting movement of the 70’ & 80’s. This painting is about Puyurru, a site west of Yuendumu. Two rainmakers unleashed a giant storm. This storm met up with another storm, and in the end created a giant soakage. Then a bird dug up a giant Rainbow Snake and the snake carried water with it to create a large lake. Shorty has had several solo exhibitions and took part in numerous group exhibitions. His work is in collections by Artbank, State and National Galleries and private collections. Cat. 886/07
